Driving Downtown - Tampa Florida USA - Season 1 Episode 13. Starting Point: North Tampa St. https://goo.gl/maps/Powsqw9B4qS2 Tampa is a city in and the county seat of Hillsborough County, Florida, United States.[11] It is located on the west coast of Florida on Tampa Bay, near the Gulf of Mexico, and is part of the Tampa Bay Metropolitan Area. The city had a population of 346,037 in 2011.[12][13] The current location of Tampa was once inhabited by indigenous peoples of the Safety Harbor culture most notably the Tocobaga and the Pohoy, who lived along the shores of Tampa Bay. The area was explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, resulting in violent conflicts and the introduction of European diseases, which wiped out the original native cultures. Although Spain claimed Florida as part of New Spain, it did not found a colony in the Tampa area, and there were no permanent American or European settlements within today's city limits until after the United States acquired Florida from Spain in 1819. In 1824, the United States Army established a frontier outpost called Fort Brooke at the mouth of the Hillsborough River, near the site of today's Tampa Convention Center. The first civilian residents were pioneers who settled near the fort for protection from the nearby Seminole population, and the small village was first incorporated as "Tampa" in 1849. The town grew slowly until the 1880s, when railroad links, the discovery of phosphate, and the arrival of the cigar industry jump-started its development, helping it to grow from a quiet village of less than 800 residents in 1880 to a bustling city of over 30,000 by the early 1900s. Today, Tampa is part of the metropolitan area most commonly referred to as the "Tampa Bay Area". For U.S. Census purposes, Tampa is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The four-county area is composed of roughly 2.9 million residents, making it the second largest metropolitan statistical area (MSA) in the state, and the fourth largest in the Southeastern United States, behind Miami, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.[14] The Greater Tampa Bay area has over 4 million residents and generally includes the Tampa and Sarasota metro areas. The Tampa Bay Partnership and U.S. Census data showed an average annual growth of 2.47 percent, or a gain of approximately 97,000 residents per year. Between 2000 and 2006, the Greater Tampa Bay Market experienced a combined growth rate of 14.8 percent, growing from 3.4 million to 3.9 million and hitting the 4 million population mark on April 1, 2007.[15] A 2012 estimate shows the Tampa Bay area population to have 4,310,524 people and a 2017 projection of 4,536,854 people.[16] Tampa was ranked as the 5th best outdoor city by Forbes in 2008.[17] Tampa also ranks as the fifth most popular American city, based on where people want to live, according to a 2009 Pew Research Center study.[18] A 2004 survey by the NYU newspaper Washington Square News ranked Tampa as a top city for "twenty-somethings."[19] Tampa is ranked as a "Gamma+" world city by Loughborough University, ranked alongside other world cities such as Phoenix, Charlotte, Rotterdam, and Santo Domingo.[20] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampa,_Florida http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g34678-Activities-Tampa_Florida.html http://www.visittampabay.com/

A Step-by-Step Explanation of how personal injury mediation works. This video guides you through how the whole mediation process works quickly and easily. Mediation is a process where each side of a case agrees to use a neutral third party to try to resolve the claim without going to trial. It’s important to know how personal injury mediation works. http://MattLaw.com - Matt Powell, Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer As an experienced personal injury trial lawyer, I meet with my clients for at least one hour before mediation to explain how personal injury mediation works. We go over specific facts and issues regarding their case. Then my client and I go to the mediation together. Upon arrival, the mediator introduces themselves to all of the parties. They also ensure everyone knows each other, their roles in the case, and how personal injury mediation works. Next, the mediator passes around a document everyone signs agreeing to keep negotiations at the mediation confidential. Since mediation is confidential, both parties can relax. Nobody worries about saying something the other side could use against them at trial. Once everyone signs the confidentiality agreement, the plaintiff’s lawyer makes their opening statement. Sometimes the opening statements are two minutes long. Other times they are a few hours long. The opening statement helps the mediator, insurance adjusters, and lawyers understand what a jury may see if it doesn’t settle. After the plaintiff lawyer makes their opening statement, the mediator allows the defense attorney to present. The defense attorney will go through their list of why they offered low settlement amounts. Following the defense’s opening statement, the mediator breaks the parties into two separate rooms. The mediators go back and forth between the two rooms carrying information from one side to another. A good mediator addresses the weaknesses of each side and suggests making compromises. If or when we reach a settlement, the parties will sign a written agreement memorializing the terms of the settlement agreement. Then the attorneys prepare the necessary paperwork to file with the court to pay the claim. If you have any more questions on how personal injury mediation works, please feel free to call me, Matt Powell, at 1-844-MATTLAW. http://MattLaw.com - Matt Powell, Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer

This group included the indentured servants, or people who paid for their passage to the New World by being forced to work for somebody for a certain number of years before getting their freedom. Most of the indentured servants were English farmers who had been pushed off their lands due to overcrowding. Up to ⅔ of European immigrants who came to the American colonies between the 1630s and the American Revolution were indentured servants. 2. Religious immigrants, who came to practice their religion freely. Included in this group were the famous Pilgrims who settled at Plymouth Colony. 3. Forced immigrants, who came over as slaves, mostly from Africa. It was the English immigrants who dominated in what later became the United States of America, probably because they came to live in larger numbers during the 1600s. From about 1630 to 1640 alone, around 20,000 Puritans crossed the Atlantic to live in New England. Even today, people with English ancestry arguably make up the largest group of Americans, though it is hard to know for sure. 8 out of the 10 most common last names in the United States are of English or British Isles origin.

They are not your friend, but they are not the friend of the other side either. They will frequently say they are the friend of the deal. They're just trying to get the case settled. That's their job.) What's your role at the mediation? Are you going to have to talk? Don't worry about that. With the right lawyer, most clients are happy to know they won't have to say a word. If you are not comfortable talking about your case and don't know how to express all the issues, don't worry, that's why you picked out an experienced lawyer. An experienced lawyer will be very familiar with your case and very familiar with the laws that apply to your case. If you do want to say something, that's probably ok too. You're just going to want to talk about it with your lawyer before you do. You don't want to accidentally say something that could wreck your case. At the beginning of mediation all the parties will come together in the same room. They'll basically introduce themselves and say hello. The facts of your case may be discussed at that time in the group meeting or the lawyers may have already provided a case summary to the mediator. After the initial meeting the parties will generally break up into two separate rooms. One with you and your lawyer, and a completely different room with the other parties. After that the mediator will walk back and forth between the rooms discussing the good and bad parts of your case and conveying settlement offers back and forth between the parties. Don't worry if you think the mediation is getting off to a slow start. There is usually a certain amount of jockeying or posturing at the beginning of the mediation until both sides settle into the real negotiations later on. There are lots of different mediation strategies and an experienced lawyer will help you choose the one that is best for your particular case. Also, please realize that during the mediation you will have plenty of private time with your lawyer where the two of you can discuss what's going on and what strategy to use to get you the very best settlement possible. At the end of the mediation your case will have either settle or not. If you do get your case settled, you'll probably have your money within about 30 days. On the other hand, if it doesn't settle, your case just continues on as though the mediation never happened. A mediation is usually the very best opportunity for all the parties to come together to try to get your case settled. You need to realize that in order to get the most value for your case, there will be good and bad times during your case to seek a mediation. It's important to have an experienced lawyer help you figure out the very best time to mediate your case. If you and your lawyer have chosen the very best time to mediate your case and you've chosen an experienced lawyer to build and present your case, you'll stand the very best opportunity to have your case settled for the most value. Be sure you have a lawyer representing you with plenty of mediation experience. You'll likely only get one chance to get it right. So you're going to want to make it count. http://www.MattLaw.com Matt Powell explains what an Offer of Settlement is and how they work. We will explore some strategies that may help reduce your risk and increase your recovery by using an Offer of Settlement. The Offer of Settlement laws and procedures are very complex and have undergone numerous changes since they were first created. This video is a simple overview of the Offer of Settlement procedure. But every case is unique and there are lots of variables that affect each Offer. But this video should help give you a basic foundation of how you can use them in a personal injury case. Most people have heard that in England, the loser of a law suit has to pay the winners attorney fees. Well in Florida, we have a similar law that says if any party offers to settle the case with the other side, and the other side rejects the offer, and you go to trial and win by more than 25% of your offer, then as a penalty to the side who made you go all the way to trial, they may have to pay your attorney fees on top of your award. This sounds simple enough, but let me tell you it is very complicated. There is a lot of strategy that goes into deciding how much to make an offer for, when to make it, and for how much. Offers of Settlement are common in personal injury cases. In a typical car accident case that is litigated considering how to send an Offer of Settlement is very important, as well as understanding how to respond to one if it is sent to you. Matt Powell is a Board Certified Civil Trial lawyer who has created many information legal videos to help the public understand theri rights. http://www.MattLaw.com
